It’s the beginning of a new year and that means new year’s resolutions. We all know how that goes. You make your list and by the end of the month, you’ve forgotten all about them. This year instead of setting a new year’s resolution, I made a promise to myself to lose some unwanted pounds and be healthier. Today will be the beginning of my weight loss journey.
Unlike most people, I was never a overweight as a child. For most of my life, I was a size 3. In fact, after having three children, I was still a size 3. What changed things for me was getting a desk job. Instead of being on my feet for the majority of the day, I was sitting. Slowly, my weight increased.
Like most, you ignore it. “It’s just a little water weight. I’ll lose it.” Then you look up and you’re 60 lbs overweight. And you have every intention of working out and eating right, but things don’t always go as planned. After working all day, I had to run home, feed the family and help the kids with their homework plus whatever running around we had to do. By the end of the night, I just wanted to relax and go to sleep. Then, you have to do it all over again the next day.
Even though my kids are grown now, I still find myself not motivated to do the things I need to do. Every now and again, I would go for walks and try to eat right. But it wouldn’t last long. That is until I weighed myself. I went from weighing 115 pounds after having three kids to 185 pounds. I couldn’t believe how much weight I had gained. But pictures, videos and the scale, don’t lie. And the worse part, most of the weight I gained was in my mid-section. Of course, belly fat is the hardest to lose.
Being overweight affects you mentally. For me, I didn’t feel like myself. I’m always self-conscious about how I look and how others perceive me. Not only that, there are health concerns. A little over 10 years ago, I developed spinal stenosis. If you don’t know what it is, it’s inflammation in your spin that puts pressure on your nerves. For that reason, it causes nerve pain in my right leg. Due to the increased weight in my mid-section, my lower back is in a lot of pain if I sleep on my back or stomach. Not to mention other health issues such as high blood pressure and other issues.
This motivated me to get back in shape. As a result, I made my husband my accountability partner. In addition, I told him that we needed to make some changes in the household. We both have to do our part, especially before grand kids come along. We have to make healthier choices especially since we eat out every day.
So, I bought a smart scale and scanned my body to know exactly where I stood. Now, I’m not alone. Not only do I have an accountability partner, this blog will also serve as one as well. Each week I’ll document my weight loss journey with how much weight, inches, etc. I’ve lost. I’m not injecting myself with anything, taking pills or drinking detox tea. The process will include more activity, eating healthier and adding in an all-natural ingredient that has seems to be helping others. Throughout the process, I’m sure there will be a lot to learn. We’ll all learn as we go and lose weight together.
